Highland Games Postponed 苏格兰高地运动会延期举办

Dear all,

Following the latest weather forecast, and after careful consideration, we have decided to postpone this year's Highland Games.

The forecast indicates severe weather conditions that would make it unsafe and impractical to hold the event as planned. While this is not the outcome we had hoped for, the safety and well-being of our attendees, participants, and team must come first.

All ticket holders will receive full refunds within the next week to their original method of payment. You do not need to take any further action to receive this – it will be done automatically.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding and support. We are currently looking at possible future opportunities to bring the Highland Games back to Beijing once again and will keep you informed of any updates.

Thank you once again for your enthusiasm and engagement — we look forward to gathering again under more favourable conditions.

With best wishes,

The British Chamber of Commerce in China, Scottish Government Office, and Scottish Development International

Highland Games

Highland games are events held in the spring and summer in Scotland and other countries as a way of celebrating Scottish and Celtic culture.

It is alleged that the games began in the 11th century, when King Malcolm III of Scotland summoned contestants to a race to find a fast runner to be his royal messenger.

We have slightly adjusted some of the events (it's hard to find a caber in Beijing!) and challenge you to roll up your sleeves and see if you've got what it takes to be crowned the very best!

Tug o'war

Teams are divided into two by a red tape in the center of the rope. The aim of this competition is to pull the opposing team to your side of the line marked on the ground. As soon as the red tape crosses the line marked on the ground, the team who pulls the rope to their side wins.

Shot Put

The shot put (in this case medicine ball), has to be placed close to your neck, resting on your shoulder. The shot must be released above the height of the shoulder with one hand. Competitors are permitted to either run up to the boundary line or stay still before releasing the ball. The competitor who throws the ball the furthest is the winner.

Tyre Flip

As a team effort, you and your team mates are required to flip the tyre from one cone to another and back again. The team to complete the distance in the quickest time wins.

Farmer's Walk

Carrying two heavy kettle-bells, competitors have to walk the marked out distance without dropping the weights or stopping in between. The person with the quickest speed, will win the competition.

The Highland Cup 5-a-side Football Competition

For the second year running, we'll also be organising a 5-a-side football competition! Compete for glory in our Highland Cup's 15 minute matches. Limited to 16 teams, pre-registration essential. Please email us at events@britishchamber.cn to sign up.

Ceilidh Dance

What is more important than learning the ceilidh dance at the Highland Games?

The Beijing Scottish Society will lead several ceilidh dance sessions throughout the day. Learn your steps in the first and show off your skills in the second!

Food & Drinks from your favourite local vendors and restaurants in Beijing

We have a wide selection of BBQ, burgers, fish and chips, baked goods, desserts and drinks for you at the Highland Games from some of our favourite local vendors and restaurants in Beijing. Come for a picnic on a hot summer day and we've got you covered!
