Last Saturday saw the coronation of King Charles III, with an estimated audience of some 400 million tuning in worldwide to watch the ceremony - the first time most of us will have witnessed the pomp and pageantry associated with the crowning of a new British monach.
On Sunday, communities around the UK and beyond were then invited to celebrate with friends and neighbours, holding street parties as part of the Coronation Big Lunch.
The British Chamber was delighted to bring this coronation spirit to Beijing last Sunday, bringing the British and Chinese communities together at the British Ambassador's Residence to enjoy a British buffet lunch prepared by China World Summit Wing Hotel with free-flow wine, gin and tonics, beers and soft drinks, while enjoying performances from Dulwich College Beijing and rewatching the highlights of the ceremony.
We were welcomed with opening remarks from His Majesty's Ambassador to China, Dame Caroline Wilson. Caroline shared a message directly from Their Majesties to all those celebrating among their community in the UK, the Commonwealth and around the world.
As guests enjoyed the food, we were treated to a performance by students from Dulwich College Beijing's rock band - thank you to Dulwich for their sponsorship of the Coronation Big Lunch, helping make this event possible!
As well as the buffet food provided by China World Summit Wing Hotel, drinks were kindly provided by Cheers, TAVA, Fever Tree and Hepple Gin.
We were also joined by Newby and Single Malt Club China, offering high quality tea and whisky respectively to our guests.
All guests were also given a card to remember the day by, with a lucky draw number - congratulations to our three winners!
Prizes donated by China World Summit Wing Hotel, Harrods, Newby, and Single Malt Club China
